Can anybody have a great life? Here are a few tips that definitely help at least. There is no guarantee that you will have a great life. But there are definitely factors that play a part in how good it is.
First of all the biggest mistake people make is by what they define as great. For some people a great life is having lots of money, for others its having lots of popularity, but I ask you, as a person “what do you see as a great life?”. Is what you are calling “great” a good thing after all. If money equals great for you then you may never have a great life even if you hit the jackpot for anybody that is wealthy will tell you that money may help your life but it doesn’t equal a great life. My point is if you consider a “great life” to be a life of contentment, fulfillment, and happiness, then this blog post is for you. I obviously cannot guarantee life will be easy with laughs every day, but I can give you some tips that really do make a positive difference to your life when practiced. I admit these are a summary of things you can do, I have gathered this from experience and many hours of research. The list is basically headlines to point you in the right direction and if you want me to discuss and further just leave a comment below.
If you don’t produce you won’t be happy. When I say produce I’m talking about creating and being a part of making things. A song, a book, a successful career, a nice home, a blog. My point is you must be producing something that gives you fulfillment. Many men do feel so useless when they retire or lose a job for they saw that job as their production line. What I mean is they worked to supply for their family and hence produced the life they wanted. However when you lose a job or retire, it is imperative that you keep producing. It may not be something new, it may be repairing something which is also a way of producing. To sum it up, producing is to create something that has value to YOU. Its making something that isn’t necessarily tangible.
2: Good friends
The greatest support system in the world are good trustworthy friends. We can’t choose our family, but we do choose our friends. I have spoken about friendships before and I cannot stress how important friendships are in life. Friends tell you the truth, they give a different perspective on things, they encourage, they support, and they are there when you need them. It is a fact that people with close friends suffer less from depression for example. The key is having good friends that you can be yourself around..
It is a known fact that people with a spiritual awareness and choose to practice in it, tend to live longer. This fact amazed me, but there you go. Having a belief system will actually cause you to live longer.
4: Get out of your head
Observe what makes your life come alive. Film, music, nature, sport, family, laughs and fun are just a few things to do that are enjoyable and bring contentment. Be in the now. Get out of your thoughts and look around. Live life and enjoy it. Enjoying life makes you enjoyable. Don’t waste time thinking too much, instead get busy doing things that reward you.
5: The inner circle
Your wife, your closest friends and family. These are the ones that have influence in our lives. If you have an issue, talk about it, don’t bottle it inside for it will eat at you. You are not an island. A saying goes “Better to live on a beach in a tent with somebody who loves you than in a mansion on your own.” We all need an inner circle, its those whom we can totally be open with and not judge us.
6: Help others
Yes thats right, get off your couch and help somebody. “But I’m so busy”, my reply is simple. The most fulfilling thing you can do is help somebody out. It might be somebody you know or even a charity that requires volunteers. The fact is people who help other people are very fulfilled people. You cannot beat the satisfaction of helping somebody else in their life. You might need help one day. Helping others gets our thoughts off us and onto others and this is very fulfilling.
7: Be a part of something bigger than you
Its true, we all want to belong to something. A cause, a charity, a company, a movement. My advice is get involved with something bigger than you. Something that you are passionate about. Something that will be good for you and others. Again its a fact that people involved with an organization or team, working towards a common goal are more fulfilled in life and therefore happier people.
8: Better yourself
By reading this blog tells me that you are somebody who want to better themselves. This is a great way to challenge yourself. Self help books, get a coach, read blogs,etc. are a great way to learn about yourself and to become a better you.
Not many people like to hear the word diet mentioned to them. The truth is your diet can have a massive impact on how you feel. For example a poor diet of the wrong types of food can cause you to have a low mood, low energy,etc. but the right food as part of a balanced diet will cause you to be healthier. The benefits are you’ll have a more positive attitude, better mood, and to be more optimistic on things, and just a general overall feeling better.
Having the right attitude is major part of a successful happy fulfilled life. I heard a saying before “Your attitude defines your altitude in life”. It effects you and those around you. Learning to have a positive attitude and a healthy perspective is a huge thing to have and doesn’t happen over night. Its turning the glass half empty into the seeing it as the glass half full. Its getting back up after being knocked down. Its you having the knowledge that no matter what happens you’l get through it.
